First meeting of Grünenthal with the federal association of thalidomiders
Talks will continue
Aachen, 10th December 2007. Grünenthal’s Member of the Executive Board, Sebastian Wirtz (37), met with representatives of the federal association of thalidomiders for the very first time. Margit Hudelmaier, Chair of the association, and other representatives took part in the talks which provided the opportunity to cement relationships and paved the way for further meetings.

Transtec® introduced in Mexico
Aachen, Germany, 28 November, 2007. In the first week of November, the transdermal buprenorphine matrix patch Transtec® was introduced in Mexico. In three different events in the biggest Mexican cities, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City, Grunenthal presented the product to an audience of more than 500 physicians in total.

Wolfgang Becker New Executive Board Member for Marketing and Sales at Grünenthal
Aachen, 22nd November, 2007. Grünenthal GmbH has appointed Wolfgang Becker, the Head of the German Division, as Executive Board Member for international sales and marketing. Wolfgang Becker provisionally took over this position in the company some months ago.

EFIC-Grunenthal Grant 2007: The new generation of pain researchers
Aachen, Germany, 15 November, 2007. Today the European Federation of Chapters of the International Association for the Study of Pain (EFIC) and the pharmaceutical company Grunenthal GmbH award five young European scientists with grants to support innovative, exploratory research projects on clinical and human experimental pain research.

Tolerance development with opioids – No significant dose increase with Transtec®
Aachen, Germany, 07 November 2007. Data from a retrospective analysis of over 1,200 pain patients show that on treatment with Transtec® compared to transdermal fentanyl fewer and primarily smaller dose adjustments were necessary. This may be evidence that buprenorphine has a lower potential for tolerance development.

Micropill Belara® improves impure skin
Paris, France, 11 October 2007. At this year’s 7th congress of the European Society of Gynaecology (Paris, 10-14 October 2007), the German pharmaceutical company Grunenthal GmbH presents the latest study results for its oral contraceptive Belara®. As the first of its kind the dermatological CEFIS-Study of the University of Hamburg shows an impressive cosmetic improvement of impured skin.

Centrally acting analgesic tapentadol – latest phase II data for the treatment of acute postoperative pain presented
Aachen, Germany, October 1st, 2007. At this year’s 4th World Congress of the World Institute of Pain (WIP), the German pharmaceutical company Grunenthal GmbH presented the latest clinical data on its centrally active analgesic tapentadol in acute pain. Tapentadol combines two analgesic principles in one molecule, μ-receptor agonism and noradrenaline reuptake inhibition, and appears to be well suited for acute as well as chronic pain conditions.

Congress News – New findings on buprenorphine presented at the WIP 2007
Budapest, 25-28 September 2007. Top international experts in the field of pain management gathered at the 4th World Congress of the World Institute of Pain to discuss the latest developments in pain medicine and research. At the meeting new findings were presented indicating the successful use of the opioid buprenorphine in the treatment of postoperative pain.

EFIC-Grunenthal Grant 2007: winners announced
Brussels, Belgium / Aachen, Germany, 24 September, 2007. The European Federation of Chapters of the International Association for the Study of Pain (EFIC) and the pharmaceutical company Grunenthal have announced the winners of this year’s EFIC-Grunenthal Grant. Each year the grant provides young European scientists with the means to carry out innovative, exploratory clinical and human experimental pain research.

Transtec® introduced in The Netherlands
Germany, Aachen, 24 September 2007. The German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal expands its pain portfolio in Northern Europe. Transtec®, a transdermal buprenorphine matrix patch, is now available in the Netherlands. The patch contains the highly potent opioid buprenorphine and is indicated for moderate to severe chronic pain.
