EFIC-Grunenthal Grant 2008: Improving future pain treatment
Aachen, Germany, 05 December, 2008. Today the winners of the 2008 EFIC-Grunenthal Grant have been awarded by the European Federation of Chapters of the International Association for the Study of Pain (EFIC) and the pharmaceutical company Grunenthal. The grant supports young international scientists in carrying out their excellent work in innovative and exploratory clinical and human experimental pain research. A total of 36 young researchers applied for funds totaling € 100,000.

Tapentadol immediate release tablets approved for the treatment of moderate to severe pain by FDA
Aachen, Germany, 24 November, 2008. Today the German pain expert Grunenthal GmbH announces that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved tapentadol immediate-release tablets for the relief of moderate to severe acute pain for adults 18 years and older.

Aachen, November 19, 2008. As of January 2009, Harald F. Stock, PhD. (40) will lead the Aachen (Germany) based Pharmaceutical Corporation Grünenthal. Currently Harald Stock is responsible for the American Health Care Company Johnson & Johnson's Orthopaedics franchise in Germany.

Transtec® - ideal for managing chronic pain in the elderly
Aachen, Germany, 18 November, 2008. In an ageing population, there is an increasing need for adequate pain control. Due to changes in metabolism and a greater risk for the development of adverse effects, older patients require different approaches for the management of chronic pain compared to younger people. The availability of transdermal buprenorphine is particularly suitable for the elderly and has been shown to offer advantages in efficacy and tolerability over other opioids.

Tapentadol: Meeting the need in modern pain therapy

Transtec® improves pain treatment for severe cancer pain
Aachen, Germany, June 19, 2008 – The prevalence of pain in cancer patients with metastatic cancer or advanced stages of the disease has been estimated to exceed 67% of all cases. Despite recent advances, this pain is frequently undertreated and is often debilitating resulting in a reduced quality of life to sufferers. Buprenorphine is a strong opioid that offers several advantages over morphine.

Treating pain effectively – New study results confirm improved gastrointestinal tolerability of tapentadol
Paris, France/Aachen, Germany, June 13, 2008. Results from two phase III clinical studies of tapentadol immediate release tablets (IR) suggest a significantly improved gastrointestinal tolerability1 as well as safety2 profile compared to oxycodone HCl IR. The data were presented by the German pharmaceutical company Grunenthal at this year’s Annual Congress of the European League against Rheumatism (EULAR, June 11–14, Paris, France).
